THE WEEK OF TASTES CHARTER

Why Australia needs a Week of Tastes:
  • Children know less and less about the taste, origins and benefits of traditional foods
  • Trend towards high consumption of fast food, or food of questionable nutritional value, is contributing to a nationwide obesity epidemic
  • Food is becoming increasingly standardized
  • There are many existing programs based on nutritional education and increased activity, but none that actually teach children about taste by putting them in direct contact with food and their producer
  • Children today have little idea of the source of their food or its connection to their health
  • Many children don’t understand the pleasures received from eating quality food and sharing around the table
  • The link between culture and food has been lost in many families
Our Objectives:
  • Awaken childrens taste buds and encourage them to discover the diversity of tastes, textures and flavours
  • Expand childrens food vocabulary by understanding the role played by all five senses
  • Connect children directly with food and its producer through taste lessons
  • Promote childrens awareness of where food comes from
  • Promote the value of diverse culinary cultures
  • Promote healthy eating through variety and balance of food
Each event presenter agrees to:
  • Work with quality products
  • Provide a didactic aspect to their lesson or presentation
